The stark landscape lends itself to see the unimaginable, perhaps a mirage, or perhaps something more insidious. In actuality deserts can be deadly for both humans and animals, and only the hardiest plants can survive there. Are the tales of strange beasts, mysterious sightings and ghostly visitors only the product of fevered, overheated brains? Perhaps what slithers, walks or glides along the unforgiving, hot sands is appears only a moment in this dimension before they take what they want.
The Creatures of Sherman Ranch
Sherman Ranch also known as Skinwalker Ranch sits on a little over 500 acres just southeast of Ballard, Utah. Sightings of UFOs and several cryptids have been reported. Prior to settlers arriving there, the Ute and Navajos tribes claimed it was used by malevolent witches known as skinwalkers.
Chasing the Muddy Monster
It happened twice during the summer of 1973 near the Big Muddy River on the outskirts of Murphysboro. Those events were the sighting of a tall, white-haired creature by two police officer that was like nothing they had ever seen.
Blame it on Bigfoot
Modern-day Sasquatch lore paints this cryptid as being very wary of man, and watching him only from afar, however Native American tribes for centuries have painted a different picture of Bigfoot. They describe how given the chance they would snatch up women or children and take them away never to be seen again.
Unlike the stories told of Bigfoot, this cryptid has a much more dangerous reputation. It's described as nocturnal, omnivorous and extremely territorial. Its footprints have been measured at 22 inches. It's reported as mimicking birds, coyotes and other wildlife as well as making unusual whistling sounds. Most disturbing of all it's purported to visit campsites after dark while humans are sleeping nearby.
The Tunnel Monsters
A tunnel is the perfect setting for a scary story, let alone the anxiety experienced by those who suffer from claustrophobia. Can you imagine sitting in a dark, enclosed space dug into the earth, and then hearing something move in the darkness close to you? And then you see the gleam of eyes staring at you from the darkness.
Despite our ignorance about the vast oceans that cover the majority of our planet's surface, many find it difficult to believe that gargantuan, humanoid-type animals have been seen in different parts of the Pacific Ocean.
Mothman Seen in Chicago
Sightings of Mothman have been reported from all over the world, but it became famous after this portender of doom was seen by several people in Point Pleasant, West Virginia just a few months before the Silver Bridge collapsed in December, 1967.
